Challenge
General Dynamics Electric Boat’s only client – the U.S. Navy – has many options for defense spending. As a result, the company needs to create messaging that clearly articulates the need to fund advanced submarine technology in a vastly competitive and global marketplace.
Results
We began marketing efforts with several defense industry trade show booth displays. Understanding the high-ranking customer, we developed messaging and visuals that would differentiate the company from other defense contractors.

Challenge
Capacitec is a global technology company dedicated to advancing the capacitive principle of measurement physics. In simpler terms the company specializes in manufacturing instrumentation and digital circuitry that provide precise measurements in extreme environments where a more sophisticated ruler is required, such as in jet engines and diesel fuel injectors.The challenge was to provide an image for the company that not only communicated its sophisticated technology, but that would also have global appeal across many vertical markets, in many languages, and raise this small company’s profile in the mindshare of companies such as GE and Lockheed Martin.

Although Capacitec invests heavily in aggressive research and development programs, at the same time, Company leadership does not lose sight of the importance of clear and consistent brand messaging. Working with them since 1987, we have created the logo, brand identity, all collateral materials, trade advertising, and two generations of websites to keep Capacitec’s message of precision fresh and relevant. REVOLUTIONARY : : Electro Energy’s innovation, the bi-polar nickel-hydride battery, is visually very simple and, at the same time, uncommon — something lost to those closely engaged in developing this technology.
Challenge
Our mission was to transition Electro Energy’s messaging from the R&D arena to commercial markets where other battery technologies are competing for buy-in. We needed to introduce a technology without the benefit of success stories and applications other than government funded programs. Electro Energy needed to grab the audience’s curiosity and attention with compelling photos, illustrations, and sophisticated graphics.
Results
A cornerstone of the company’s commercialization strategy is the expectation that all targeted markets will evolve over time and at unpredictable rates. As such, it was important to show that the company is not tying its fortunes to the success or pace of a single market. HAPPENING : : Communicate urban revitalization through the visual branding of the 26-block downtown area. The brand identity provides a unified look for all of the organization’s communication and marketing efforts.
Challenge
The non-profit organization New London Main Street, tasked with revitalizing downtown New London, needed a way to quickly and easily let people know there was a lot happening in the formerly depressed downtown area. Many outsiders thought of the city as crime-ridden and abandoned, a reputation from decades past that the organization hoped to dispel. The organization was looking to get more people downtown to shop, eat, attend events, live, and do business.
Results
We created an identity for The District, an abbreviation we coined from the downtown area’s official name — The New London Historic Waterfront District. The vibrant and eclectic logo encompasses icons associated with the city to include history, entertainment, dining, the waterfront, shopping, and art. When the new logo was unveiled it received significant media and public attention including a feature on Connecticut TV News. Stakeholders have embraced The District imagery and are using it pervasively.

A NEW WORLD : : WinZip's founder wanted to create a visual message that was "out there." It went on to become the #1 compression software application in the world.
Challenge
In 1993, WinZip Computing was operating out of a home office by one brilliant programmer who had a vision. Email was relatively new, the Internet in its infancy,
and this was a software application of which there was no existing category. Visually,
the founder wanted it to be so different people would be compelled to take interest
in its message. The goal was to introduce the compression software to the world
and make it ubiquitous.
Results
We created the "World of WinZip" with an identity that illustrates the application as well as visual messaging that is certainly out of this world. From the often imitated icons that launch the software to direct mail to package design, we've helped this must-have award-winning utility remain "out there" in front of its varied audience. The WinZip logo is now one of the most recognized in the industry.

DRINKABILITY : : We were hired by Olde Windham Brewing Company to create a microbrew brand with a distinctive package to reflect the owners love of his beagle dog mixed with the historic folklore of frogs in the town of Willimantic CT. We implemented a corporate identity package, logo, signage and advertising for the new microbrewery which manufactured and distribute several flavors of beer and ales.

Challenge
A successful program and project management firm, Saybrook Associates was well-respected and accomplished, but had no brand image in the mind of its prospects
and clients. It was rarely considered for the larger opportunities that were awarded
to multi-national consultants, perceived as a safer choice even when Saybrook had
more expertise.
Results
We helped Saybrook achieve consistent messaging allowing its prospects and clients to clearly know what they stand for - experience. Through the brand awareness campaign and materials we created, the company is now positioned on an equal playing field with its competitors, and two years after the brand launch the company's revenues grew by 50%.

HERO : : When the Nestor Traffic System detects a car going through a red light it delays the green light in the opposite direction. This makes those who choose Nestor heroes by “Protecting Communities Through Technology.”
Challenge
Nestor needed to differentiate its automated red light enforcement solutions in a very crowded, competitive environment. Senior management presented the company as a software engineering firm, providing the most advanced video capture technology. Nestor’s sales team knew that its diverse customer base composed of multiple decision makers – police chiefs, city officials, and community leaders, did not fully appreciate or readily understand the nuances among competitors offers. They saw opportunity for increased revenue, but needed to convince residents and taxpayers.
Results
Through one-on-one interviews with customers, the CEO, and the sales team, product assessment sessions, and analysis of competitor messaging, we discovered that the overall importance of this technology is safety. We brought awareness to this amazing technology through strong branding to show the precious reasons why Nestor Traffic Systems should be implemented everywhere.

Known for its exceptional customer service and personal approach, Mystic Management Systems (MMS) is a global provider of web-based document control software that helps companies streamline systems. The company was looking to update its current image to stand out from the numerous other document control software companies that project a very corporate and predictable look. MMS was trying to reach the quality control manager in three specific industries: life sciences/medical device, manufacturing, and packaging.
Results
We successfully created a brand message that highlights the company’s personal and family-like culture as well as communicates its product offer. What better way to express a sense of community and order than having all your “ducks in a row?”

DISCOVERY : : Our deep understanding of the Pfizer culture and audience lead to both effective visual solutions and a working relationship that strengthens its brand message.
Challenge
Our relationship with Pfizer began in the mid-1990s when we were hired to create the brand identity for Drug Pfinder, a global collaboration of resources between Pfizer and scientific and academic institutions which brings new drugs to the market more quickly. The identity had to communicate on an international level the enormous potential these partnerships represented.
Results
The success of Drug Pfinder led to a number of other identity and awareness projects for Pfizer's Discovery Technology Center, Strategic Alliances, and Genomics and Proteomics Sciences. Additional work has included safety awareness programs, employee communications, and educational programs.

INSPIRATION : : The tagline, "Inspired learning through exploration," set the tone for all ISAAC's brand messaging. This included using active imagery of middle school students, testimonials from teachers, parents, students, and community leaders, not to mention the generous use of primary colors.
Challenge
Embarking on its first capital campaign to fund the renovation of its new location, The Interdistrict School for Arts and Communication (ISAAC) looked to us to create a brand message that expressed the energetic and exploratory nature of its mission as an expeditionary charter middle school and to develop materials that would resonate with and engage local and national philanthropic organizations, as well as private donors.
Results
As a result of the dynamic campaign, the organization surpassed its campaign goal and even chose to paint the walls of the new building with the brand colors, creating an environment that truly reflects the vibrant messaging created.
